James Hetfield, Metallica's lead singer, said that "when people start copying your style, you know that something must be happening." I never realized just how happening I was until I discovered that I was being impersonated.
Realizing that someone is pretending to be you is extremely disturbing. I started questioning whether it was someone I knew or a complete stranger. Had someone been monitoring my online presence? And for how long? The idea of someone watching my online actions and gathering information about me made me feel physically sick.
Of course, I stumbled upon this right as I was headed to bed and, unsurprisingly, found myself unable to sleep. An eerie feeling started to creep over me as my mind drifted to disturbing thoughts. As I felt close to losing my grip on reality, I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to recheck the deadbolt locks. Naturally, the best way to do this was by turning on every light in the house!
Wide awake and with the security system securely activated, I started questioning the reasons behind their actions. What could be their motivation beyond significantly disrupting my life? They must be gaining something from this. I reviewed all my information and discovered that they had taken control of two of my profiles on less trustworthy websites, Erotic Monkey and Private Delights. I have contacted both sites via email and am awaiting their response.
They have gathered some information and have been messaging people pretending to be me. Someone they contacted sent me a screenshot, in which these so-called geniuses, claiming to be me, misspelled my name. They even claimed that their younger sister was ill and needed money. Just to clarify, I'm an only child...
The hardest part of this situation is realizing that someone could be deceived by their scam, and I can't shake the feeling of responsibility. Even though I know logically it's not my fault, I still find myself feeling deeply unsettled and upset by the whole ordeal.
My only comfort is that THEY DON'T SOUND LIKE ME IN THE SLIGHTEST. The messages are full of incomplete sentences, a lot of slang combined with acronyms, and phrases I would never use. I'm hoping this will alert the person they are texting, prompting them to do a quick Google search and realize what is going on.
With all this said my NUMBER IS THE SAME, it has not changed and nothing else matters...
