Is sex work something I find enjoyable? Sex work is my profession. I have held long term white collar jobs working in the field I received my graduate degree in. Each with its own advantages and disadvantages. This particular job is without a doubt the most rewarding job I have ever had. I began my sex work career in my early 40s, and it has truly been a life changing experience for the positive.
Before this I was constantly away from home working I job I didn't enjoy, I neglected the most important role to me - being a mom. I was overwhelmed, struggling financially, and worst of all, miserable, which affected every aspect of my life. To put it lightly, I didn't even enjoy my own company. I was unhappy and disappointed with who I had become.
Then I found out about sex work. I honestly believed that it wasn't something that existed here. I wasn't living in an exotic foreign country or a county near Las Vegas. I was convinced that if it did exist, it would be extremely frightening and probably involve unpleasant individuals, illegal substances, and excessively high-heeled shoes. There was no chance that I would be involved in that or walk in those.
I started reading and discovered, as Virginia did, "yes, there is a Santa Claus." One thing led to the next, and I learned more and more. I decided to go for it and hired a mentor who played a crucial role in my progress given the lack of any business models for sex work. This decision transformed my life, and the change was overwhelmingly positive, despite the narratives portrayed in the media.
I am so much happier. My family is so much happier. And too boot I really like the individuals I interact with, they are pretty amazing. I truly believe that if we had crossed paths in a different manner we would still be friends. Our friendship might not have been as intimate, which is a significant advantage of my job. Not only do I have the freedom of being my own boss, but I also get to engage in the activity that most of us truly desire.
Just like everything else in the world, not all things are a good fit for everyone. For me, being a sex worker is a perfect fit. So, do I enjoy being a sex worker? Absolutely! My only wish is that I had discovered this earlier...
